About the Fund

The Los Angeles County Regional Spelling Bee Charitable Fund supports the Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE) in its role as a proud Regional Partner of the Scripps National Spelling Bee. Through this partnership, LACOE offers students in grades 4–8—from public, private, and charter schools across Los Angeles County—the opportunity to compete in a countywide Spelling Bee.

The Impact

Last year, 452 schools participated, with approximately 50 district-level spellers competing at the regional level and two winners moving on. This year, the goal is to increase support and send the top three students to the next level of competition. The fund ensures that all qualifying students have access to these incredible opportunities—regardless of financial circumstances.

Your Support in Action

This fund ensures that top spellers from Los Angeles County can compete at the California State Spelling Bees and the Scripps National Spelling Bee without financial barriers. By covering travel costs such as flights, hotels, and meals, it provides equal access to these life-changing experiences. The fund also supports the growth of the regional competition, allowing more students from public, private, and charter schools to participate and excel.
