Migrant Education Student Scholarships

About the Scholarship
Established in 1985 by parents in the Migrant Education Program’s Regional Parent Advisory Council and the Region 10 Migrant Education Unit, this scholarship supports migratory students in Los Angeles County who are completing their high school diploma or GED and pursuing higher education. Funded through parent-led fundraising and community partnerships, it provides critical support to students whose families rely on seasonal or temporary work in agriculture, fishing, or forestry. Often facing educational disruptions due to frequent moves, these students have shown exceptional resilience and determination in overcoming challenges to achieve their academic goals.
The Impact
Since it was established, the Migrant Education Program Scholarship has awarded over 600 scholarships, ranging from $500 to $1,000, to deserving migratory students. These scholarships provide essential financial support, helping students overcome barriers to higher education and pursue their academic and career goals. Many recipients—children of families working in agriculture, fishing, or forestry—have gone on to attend prestigious universities and pursue careers in education, law, and medicine, with a shared commitment to giving back to their communities.

This longstanding tradition fosters academic excellence, encourages community service, and promotes diversity and inclusion in higher education. With your generous support, we can continue empowering students to achieve their dreams and build stronger, more equitable communities.
